We are heartbroken to hear of the unexpected passing of Miguel Ángel Miranda Alonso, a distinguished scientist and pioneer in the field of Photobiology in Spain. He was Professor at the Polytechnic University of Valencia where he contributed to the creation of the Institute of Chemical Technology. His activities in Photochemistry-Photobiology were centered in both mechanistic and applied innovative aspects. For the excellence of his work and his career he received many awards, including the ESP Award for Excellence in Photobiological Research in 2017.

He served as President of the European Society for Photobiology (2009-2011).

We will remember him not only as a brilliant scientist, but also for his generosity, mentorship and legacy to young photochemists/photobiologists.
